The foundation of Cascina Scova dates back to around 1600; it takes its name from the meaning of the word ‘scova’, broom in the Pavia dialect. The land surrounding the farmstead, in fact, was used for rotting and among the spontaneous crops was sorghum, which was collected and dried to make sturdy brooms.
Historical rumours have it that Cascina Scova played a role in Napoleon Bonaparte's Italian campaign, as it was used as a base for soldiers' camps, given its distance from the city walls and thus from the battlefields at the time. Four centuries have passed since then. From 1994 to 2003, the greenhouse with camphor plant specimens was the location for private and corporate events; here are some of our guests: Coccola, DHL, Computer Associates, Lancia, Unes, Pall, Carialo, P&O, Ricordati, Mediolanum, Avsi, Dra, Villaggi Sos, Ikea, Benkiser Italia.
After two years of renovation, in April 2007, the spaces inside the old greenhouse were reorganised into a resort with 39 rooms, a SPA (with an indoor swimming pool, hydromassage and cervical jets, and a thermarium with sauna, Turkish bath, hot bench, emotional shower and Kneipp pools), massage cabins for both facial and body treatments, a salt grotto, and conference and event rooms.
